Keyword Research

One of the most important aspects of making it possible for customers to find your website is using relevant keywords. 

Anyone who has ever used Google or Yahoo to search the web knows that for any given search term there will be thousands or even tens of thousands of websites listed.  Most people when they do a search will only look at the first one or two pages, so if your website is on the third page your chances of someone finding it are reduced. 

There are many companies who will guarantee a top ten listing in the major search engines, but in our experience it is not something that can be guaranteed.  Because of the complex algorithms that are used by the search engines (which are changed frequently) there is no 100% certainty that your website will be listed on the first page.

It is interesting to note that companies say the websites they have optimised have the number one position in Google search results.  What they don't say is how many people actually search for the term that gives this result.  Think about it, if no one searches Google using the search term that puts your website at number one, then these claims are meaningless.

Just a couple of key things that need to be considered are:

1. Search volume of a particular keyword / keyphrase.

2. How many competing websites / web pages there are.
